Project:
Seabrook Nuclear Power Project
Location: Seabrook, NH, USA
Date:
1986
Description:
Seabrook is a 1,160-megawatt (net) pressurized-water nuclear reactor that provides
about 7% of the electricity used in the six New England states...enough electricity
for about 1,000,000 homes.
The plant is located two miles inland from
the New Hampshire coast, about one hour north of Boston, MA and twenty minutes
south of Portsmouth, NH. Seabrook was designed in the 1970s and constructed in
the 1980s, with plant completion and the granting of its operating license by
the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 1986. The water used to condense steam in
the plant is carried from the ocean to the plant via two three-mile-long underground
tunnels.
These tunnels, together with foundations of the plant, underground
facilities and all protective spillways were treated with the Penetron ®system
in 1986. Apart from the guaranteed waterproofing and chemical resistance performance
protecting the concrete, the client was pleased with Penetron's additional benefit
of significant reduction in gamma radiation in case of an accident at the plant.
Products used include Penetron®,
Penecrete and Peneplug.
