FAST FACTS

Penetron can be applied from the negative side (the side opposite the water pressure) and still completely dry out a concrete structure.

An intricate web of insoluble crystals forms in the presence of Penetron and H2O creating a permanent protective seal

 Penetron Industry Newsletter

September 2005

Greetings,

Welcome to another edition of the Penetron concrete waterproofing update. We chose to feature the dry-shake Penetron Plus solution in this issue as it is an extremely effective way of applying the Penetron system to concrete slabs, that is often overlooked by designers and was also used extensively on the Milano water treatment plant, featured underneath. The photo on the right shows Penetron Plus being used to waterproof a base slab from the positive side, another unique Penetron solution.
Exciting projects in Chile and Ukraine are also featured, read on...

Company News
ImageIn October 2004, Penetron was officially recognized as complying with NSF/ANSI 61, an internationally respected health effects standard governing all devices, components and materials that come in contact with drinking water. No other independent testing program requires companies to comply with the strict standards imposed by NSF and its product certification programs. NSF is also the only third-party testing organization to undertake a complete evaluation of every aspect of a product's development prior to certification.  As a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, NSF is the leading global provider of public health and safety risk management solutions.
Product Feature - Penetron Plus
Penetron Plus is a dry-shake crystalline waterproofing product designed for application to horizontal concrete surfaces where a good wear-resistance and waterproofing properties are required.
It is simply distributed on the setting concrete no earlier than 1 hour before finishing of the concrete is started.
Penetron Plus penetrates rapidly into the setting concrete, as the concrete contains an abundance of moisture in its plastic state. Moreover, the active crystalline materials are trowelled into the concrete surface eliminating the need for initial surface penetration. Hence, Penetron Plus provides a time-effective and efficient way to integrally waterproof horizontal concrete slabs. Click here for more information on Penetron Plus.
CASE STUDY - WASTE WATER FOCUS
Water Treatment Plant Milan South / Rozzano, Italy

ImageThe solution to improving Milan's water situation lay in the implementation of a series of water treatment plants. The most important task of which was to drain the water of the Southern Lambro, considered to be the main cause of pollution into the Po River, with a catchment area of 1 million inhabitants. The contractor CMB needed to solve the impermeability problem in the delivery and suction tunnels of the Lambro Water and Penetron fit the bill. After the excellent performance of the Penetron System on this project, the managing engineers decided to use the Penetron System for the treatment of all purifying basins as well (click here for CMB's testimonial). All together the surface covered with Penetron was about 150,000 m2 with a product consumption of 250,000kg.

Waste Water Plant, Beijing, China

The Mengtougou waste water project was one of the key municipal projects in Beijing in 2003. Designed to have a treatment capacity of 40'000 m3 of water per day, this facility serves a population of 120'000 people and and area of 14 km2. Unlike other water treatment facilities, Mengtougou employs odor-eliminating technology which further increases the water quality of the YongDing river. Penetron was chosen and successfully applied to the adjustment, condensation and sediment tanks of this facility.

  Penetron®   Worldwide
Nuclear Waste DNR Plant - Savannah River Site, USA
ImageRecently, Penetron Plus was selected to waterproof a fast-tracked concrete pour at the Savannah River Site nuclear materials processing facility.  The Department of Energy required a product that would not only effectively waterproof their processing slab, but is quick and easy to apply as well.  Having successfully met the requirements of the owner and contractor, Penetron is now being considered for application on other parts of this facility as well.
ICF Construction, Baer Enterprises, USA
ImageBaer Enterprises in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a home builder specialising in Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction, needed a product that effectively waterproofs their projects, while being cost effective, easy to use and allow scheduling flexibility at the same time. They decided to dose Penetron Admix into the concrete poured inside the ICF walls. Penetron Admix gave them all they required as well as performance and reliability.  With a string of successful Penetron jobs behind them, Baer continues to use Penetron Admix on their ICF and conventional projects.

La Reina Military Hospital - Santiago, Chile

La Reina Military Hospital in Chile, which is currently under construction, is the biggest hospital development that Chile has seen in the last 30 years.  This high tech hospital will use a total of 60,000m3 of concrete and crystalline waterproofing materials will be applied to 20,000 m2 of exterior walls and interior spaces (bathrooms, kitchen, garbage areas and water tanks). Penetron has already been applied to a significant portion of this.
Krivorozhstal Complex, Ukraine
Since its construction in 1934, Krivorozhstal, one of the Ukraine's largest enterprises, has produced numerous types of metal products such as steel and pig iron.  In order to extend its offering to the international market, this metallurgical giant has improved its facilities to meet a range of international manufacturing standards and chose the Penetron system to help achieve these requirements and increase the lifespan of the facility.

Penetron's official distributor in the Ukraine, The Likon Company, has been applying 20 tons of Penetron materials annually at this mining and metallurgical complex since 2003.  Penetron has been applied to all of the major components of the complex including the 9th blast furnace, the largest and most famous in the Ukraine which can convert up to 5,000 m3 of pig iron, as well as the 1st and 2nd blast furnaces, rolling shops No. 1, 2, and 3, sump areas, a 1km underpass and other facilities. Work continues at Krivorozhstal with the 8th blast furnace currently being treated.

The Chief Engineer of the Krivorozhstal Construction Department stated; "our production facilities require the best protection to ensure the highest durability for years to come and the Penetron materials have proven to be of the highest quality and reliability."
