RCC Steeping Vats

Shirala, India

Description

The large concrete vats are used to boil corn prior to recovery of the starch from corn. At temperatures of about 70°C, the addition of SO2 gas forms sulphuric acid (H2SO4) at pH 2.8-4. This subsequently affects the concrete surface. The manufacturer needed a concrete structure that would not be affected by the process; PENETRON technology was the solution.

Products Used

The PENETRON SYSTEM was used to treat the huge vats; PENECRETE MORTAR was used to seal the construction joints. The total treated area was approximately 1,000 m2 (10,770 square feet) and 300 m (985 feet) of construction joints.
