Durable and Green Township Center Built on PENETRON

Malaysia

The Mont Kiara township of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, recently opened the new Arcoris Mont Kiara mixed residential/commercial development to the public. The award-winning design sets a new highlight in the Kuala Lumpur skyline and made extensive use of PENETRON technology during construction.

Situated on six acres, Arcoris Mont Kiara features a 35-floor southern tower with offices and a 275-room hotel, as well as an 18-floor northern tower of luxury apartments with a pool, gym, spa and playground. At the ground level, there are retail areas, cafés and restaurants.

“PENETRON worked closely with the architects at Foster + Partner, a world-renowned architectural firm and GDP Architects, a local architectural company, to ensure a durable waterproofing solution for the concrete structures,” notes Jozef Van Beeck, International Sales & Marketing Director of The PENETRON Group. “The result is an environmentally-friendly, Green Building Index-rated (GBI: a Malaysian environmental standard) project that has also become the new center for the Mont Kiara township.”

The two terraced towers of the 1.5 million square foot development are linked by a landscaped central plaza. Walled gardens and an expansive courtyard help create an effective green community with numerous sustainable features. The below-ground water tanks that hold rainwater are only one of the environmentally-friendly features, but they are a key part of the construction that was made possible with PENETRON technology.

The Arcoris Mont Kiara project relied on PENETRON ADMIX for complete basement waterproofing and concrete protection. Approximately 6,500m3 of concrete were treated with PENETRON ADMIX, and all construction joints were sealed with PENEBAR SW-55 waterstops. PENETRON ADMIX was used in the pile caps, basement slabs, columns, core walls, retaining walls and water-retaining structures.

Solid footing: The award-winning Arcoris Mont Kiara development represents a new highlight in the Kuala Lumpur skyline – and is built on PENETRON technology.
