Water Treatment & Storage

Blacklick Creek Sanitary Interceptor Sewer

New Albany (Columbus), OH, USA

Description

The $98-million Blacklick Creek Sanitary Interceptor Sewer (BCSIS) project extended the existing sanitary sewer to expand service to the northeast region of Columbus and surrounding communities. The tunnel construction (finished diameter of 10-12 feet) at 40-140 feet below the surface used a segmental concrete liner. The tunnel and its four shafts were completed well ahead of projected schedule – and now provide the Columbus metropolitan area with improved sanitary system flexibility.

Products Used

The 4.5-mile-long tunnel’s precast concrete elements were treated with PENETRON ADMIX SB, a crystalline concrete waterproofing admixture in soluble bags to simplify mixing, by E.C. Babbert, the project precast supplier.
