Description
The $660 million expansion of the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant (SDWWTP) increased the plant’s permitted treatment capacity from 112.5 to 131 million gallons per day (MGD) and its wet weather capacity from 285 MGD to 305 MGD. Upgrades included a new sludge thickening and dewatering facility, and enhanced environmental compliance to help the county meet its goal of eliminating ocean effluent outfalls by 2025. The expanded WWTP serves the southern portion of Miami-Dade County, which includes approximately 1.5 million people.

Cemex, the ready-mix concrete supplier, added PENETRON ADMIX SB to 2,000 yds3 of concrete mix for all new concrete tanks and clarifiers. Once added to the concrete mix, PENETRON ADMIX SB-treated concrete is impermeable to effluent, by stopping water, chloride ions, sulfates, and other chemicals from entering the concrete, even under constant hydrostatic pressure.
