The Crowne Plaza Borjomi Hotel opened its doors this summer as the first international hotel in this famous resort destination in the country of Georgia. ThePENETRON Systemwas a crucial part of the construction specifications for a site located close to a river and the renowned natural artesian springs.

Located in the heart of Borjomi, a picturesque Georgian spa and resort town well known for its artesian natural springs, the new Crowne Plaza Borjomi Spa Hotel was created by a thorough renovation of an existing building. Part of the Inter Continental Hotel Group (IHG®), the hotel features 101 rooms, a large spa facility and fitness studio, six conference rooms, a coffee shop, a restaurant and a cocktail lounge – with stunning views of the mountains and adjacent river.

“Located in a famous resort, this new hotel has a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, saunas and steam rooms, and hot sulphur baths,” adds Tamazi Chikhladze, Director of PENETRON Georgia. “That’s why the project manager specified PENETRON technology for a durable solution.”

Due to the hotel’s proximity to the region’s renowned natural springs and the Borjomula River, the project managers looked for a proven, non-toxic waterproofing solution for the concrete structures. Thanks to its Green Label certification, PENETRON was selected from a list of competitive materials to treat the concrete mix during construction. All below-ground structures (over 450 m3) and the hotel swimming pool were treated with PENETRON ADMIX. In addition, a combination of PENETRON topical material, PENEBAR waterstop and PENECRETE MORTAR, were applied to 600 m2 of concrete to permanently seal all joints and cracks.

“The local mineral water industry is one of the nation’s primary exports, making this hotel project by a prominent international hospitality chain an important part of the infrastructure,” adds Rob Revera, President and CEO of The PENETRON Group. “The PENETRON System ensures impermeability for the concrete, adding to the long-term durability of the structure.”

New “Crowne” jewel: The completely renovated Crowne Plaza Borjumi Spa Hotel is built on a foundation using PENETRON technology.
