Description
To support the city’s continued growth, Huntingburg opted to completely replace the municipal wastewater treatment plant originally built in 1957 and updated in the 1990s. The new facility handles 3-3.5 million gallons of wastewater daily (MGD), more than three times the previous plant’s capacity. Technological improvements include a UV (ultraviolet) disinfection system (instead of chlorine), a cascade aeration system, and replacing the blower and electrical process used to oxygenate the water. A solar power array will be added to offset power usage and provide power during outages.
Products Used
Commonwealth Evansville, the project engineers, required a concrete waterproofing solution for the Class B-mat foundation, columns, retaining walls, treatment tank slabs, headworks/screening structures, and beams. PENETRON ADMIX SB was added to the concrete mix by imi, the ready-mix concrete supplier, to ensure durable concrete structures.
