LNG Regasification Terminal

São João da Barra (Rio de Janeiro), Brazil

Description

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) Regasification Terminal in São João da Barra, Brazil, was built by Gás Natural Açu (GNA), a joint venture among Prumo Logística, bp, Siemens, and SPIC Brasil. GNA built the LNG Regasification Terminal to supply its thermoelectric power plants in the region of Rio de Janeiro. The new terminal is configured as a ‘floating, storage, and regasification unit’ (FSRU) with a daily capacity of 21 million m3. A regasification plant converts LNG, stored at −162°C, to atmospheric temperatures.

Products Used

PENETRON ADMIX was used for the São João da Barra pier, where the GNA regasification terminal is moored. PENETRON ADMIX provides comprehensive protection against concrete deterioration caused by chemical attack and corrosion from an aggressive marine environment (chloride ions from seawater).
