Metro Line 4 South
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Due to increased public transport expected for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the city of Rio de Janeiro received large investments for infrastructure. The investments in subway construction are the most significant and new lines are emerging, such as line 4. This line will connect Barra da Tijuca (west) to Ipanema (south zone) and will transport more than 300 thousand people a day. Line 4 is 16 km long and includes 6 new stations.
The major challenge of this metro line expansion was the line runs on sandy soil with a large presence of water. Especially in stations that are constructed a with diaphragm wall and an under pressure slab. In stations that used slabs; Our Lady of Peace, Antero de Quental, Jardim de Alah and Garden Ocean, PENETRON ADMIX and PENEBAR SW-55 were fundamental in achieving superior performance in terms of protection and impermeability.
