Patapsco Wastewater Treatment Plant

Baltimore, MD, USA

Description

Baltimore’s Patapsco facility is one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in the U.S.A. PENETRON crystalline technology was applied to the entire biologically activated filter (BAF) system to ensure crucial concrete durability and resistance to chemical attack. Concrete structures in wastewater treatment plants are exposed to various chemicals, such as chlorides, sulfates and acids that can enter the concrete. This acid attack can cause dissolution of the concrete matrix and a subsequent loss of structural integrity.

Products Used

Added during batching, PENETRON ADMIX was used to treat about 23,000 cubic yards (17,600 m3) of concrete. In addition, small cracks in the concrete were sealed with PENETRON topical material. This solution ensured that the above-ground tank is leak-free.
